The staff of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) have said that they were against the re-instatement of the suspended Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr. Angela Uwakwem.
Daily Times recalls that Uwakwem was, three months ago, sent on a compulsory leave by the Federal Government over protests by staff of the hospital, arising from allegations levelled against her by the aggrieved staff.

A panel of enquiry, set up by the Federal Ministry of Health to ascertain the immediate and remote causes of the labour unrest in the hospital, as well as the authenticity and other charges preferred against the medical Director, later exonerated Uwakwem. The Medical Director who attempted to resume duties, on Wednesday, met a brick wall as the embattled workers who wore black attires with placards bearing various inscriptions firmly placed the main entrance gate of the hospital under lock and key.
The workers who barricaded the Owerri/Orlu road, marched through the major roads and streets within the capital city, chanted solidarity songs.
Daily Times reports that heavily armed anti-riot mobile policemen were seen manning the place, as medical services for both in- and out-patients were paralysed.
Uwakwem did not pick her telephone calls for possible reaction but some of the protesters accused the Federal Ministry of Health of foul play and complicity in the report that gave her a clean bill of health.
