A group, under the auspices of the Tuberculosis Network in Ondo State, has said medical institutions in the state need adequate funding to tackle tuberculosis. The Coordinator of the group, Mr Martin-Mary Falana, stated this on Monday during an event to mark the 2019 World Tuberculosis Day in Akure.
He said, “Tuberculosis is the second deadliest disease in the world. It can be cured. But people can not have access to health care because of limited funds to create awareness. “Only 12 per cent out of the money released by global funds is given to tackle the disease. We need more resources for motivation.
“We all have a responsibility in joining hands to end tuberculosis in our society by referring anyone coughing for two weeks to a medical facility which is totally free for treatment.” Desk Officer, Tuberculosis and Leprosy, Ondo State Primary Healthcare Development Board, Mrs Olufunke Adeniyi, said the treatment of the disease was free in the state.
She said,”The state government is motivating the health workers across the 18 local government areas of the state. Every public health care facility is equipped to adequately treat tuberculosis in the state.”
