Wife of the Rivers State Governor Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom Wike has urged public-pri-vate partnership in the health sector to ensure that people have access to quality health care.
She advised women to screen for breast cancer, saying successful treatment depends on early detection. Justice Nyesom-Wike spoke yesterday at the Christ Church, Port Harcourt, after she inaugurated a Mammogram Centre on the church premises by the Christ Church Women's League.
She said the Governor Nyesom Wike administration has invested in the development of the health sector, adding that private sector participation is required to cover more grounds.
The woman hailed the Women's League for investing in mammogram to help in the early detection of breast cancer.
Enjoining other public-spirited organisations to emulate the Women's League, Justice Nyesom-Wike said the operators of the facility should be professional and humane in the way they perform their functions. "With this intervention, women in Rivers State now have another facility where they can be screened for breast cancer. I urge women to avail themselves of this opportunity to screen themselves for breast cancer," she said.
Justice Nyesom-Wike advocated the siting of a federal cancer treatment centre in Port Harcourt, as the three cancer treatment facilities are located in the Southwest and North-west.
Deputy Governor Ipalibo Harry Banigo said the Wike administra-tion would cater for the people by providing basic amenities.
The Prelate of the Methodist Church, Reverend Samuel Kanu Uche, enjoined government officials to promote the well-being of the less privileged.
The event was also attended by the Primate of the Anglican Church of Nigeria, Reverend Nicholas Okoh; Anglican Archbishop of Niger Delta Province, Reverend Ignatius Kattey; commissioners and special advisers in the state.
