Government hospitals such as the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital and Rivers State owned Briatwaite Memorial Hospital observed the strike yesterday.
Patients at the university teaching hospital were seen loitering within the wards unattended to.
A female patient said she was in the hospital for more than three hours without anybody attending to her.
Chairman of the Joint Health Sector Union at the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, Godfrey Lamle, said the union had served the hospital management a notice of the strike.
Normal activities went on at public hospitals in Adamawa State as health workers reported for work.
Checks by our correspondent revealed that nurses, laboratory technicians and other health workers did not observe the strike.
Chairman of the state chapter of the National Association of Nurses and Midwives, Adamu Watu, however said the strike would commence on November 13 if government failed to respond positively.

The Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) yesterday shut down all outlets of the National Agency For Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) as health workers commenced an indefinite strike over salary structure and unpaid allowances.
While declaring the strike at the premises of NAFDAC in Oshodi, Lagos, the Chairman, MHWUN, Federal Area Council, Comrade Steven Nwokenta Ibe, also directed all NAFDAC staff to observe the strike nationwide from yesterday.
He said: “All NAFDAC outlets including airports, seaports, land and borders will remain shut indefinitely until the management of the agency implements the demands of the union.
He directed all staff of NAFDAC nationwide including those manning the borders to observe the strike.
