The Joint Health Sector Union of the Federal Teaching Hospital FTH in Gombe State has begun an indefinite strike over unpaid allowances.
Briefing newsmen at the weekend in Gombe, the spokesman of the union, Comrade Idris Bello, said they decided on the strike as a result of the inability of the hospital’s management to meet their demands on welfare.

He said they had signed an agreement with management on July 10 over their demands which include promotion and allowances which were unpaid for over 13 months.
According to him, the management stopped paying them some allowances meant for federal civil servants since 1999 and promised gradual payment from profits realised but failed to fulfil the promise.
