Lagos State Government has said the role of health workers is very crucial, in the fight against infectious diseases.
Speaking during the foundation laying of the doctors fund raising ceremony by the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria, AGPMON, Lagos state, Commissioner of Health, Dr. Jide Idris, said in the fight against Lassa fever and other infectious diseases the health workers must first protect themselves when dealing with patients whether infectious or not. According to him, "we must imbibe good health behaviour, good personal hygiene, good environmental hygiene which is all very crucial not only for Lassa fever, but also for most infectious diseases. We must dispose our waste properly, we must cover our waste to prevent animals, rodents, cockroaches and insects from coming near them, we must dispose-off them properly keep our environments clean, maintain a personal hygiene hand washing is crucial, if you adopt that culture of hand washing, studies have shown that it reduces the body of infections by about 40 percent."
