The Director General, National Agency for the Control of AIDs (NACA), Prof John Idoko has said the number of those infected with the HIV virus has reduced from over 4 million to 3.4 million just as the number of mothers transmitting to their children is going down.
The DG who was represented by the Director Administration, NACA, Mr Emmanuel Chenge said this at a road-show to mark the World Aids Day yesterday in Abuja.
Idoko said the day was being marked since 1988 to sensitise people about HIV and give hope to those living with the virus.
He further stated that anti-stigma law has been passed by the government hence no one living with the virus should be stigmatised.
Country Director, UNAIDS, Dr Bilali Camara said for Nigeria to get to zero and end HIV/AIDS by 2030, domestic funding should match external donor funds and local production of anti-retroviral drugs by local pharmaceutical companies should be encouraged.
The National Secretary, Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (NEPWHAN) Abdulkadir Ibrahim said a lot needed to be done to end HIV/AIDS in 2030.
