The Lagos State Monitoring team of JOHESU made up of the NANNM Chairman Onkebody and other members are currently going about the various Units in the State to ensure that the Strike Action is in full effect in all State and Local Government healthcare Facilities.
It would be recalled that in a recent letter sent to the Governor of Lagos State tittled: RE: Directive To All Members of JOHESU and APHA in the States And Local Government Health Institutions To Join In The Ongoing Industrial Action Earlier Started In The Federal Health Institutions On 12th November 2014
The attached directive on the above subject matter refers to officially inform His Excellency that our Members within the State and Local Government Health Institutions are to Comply with the above directive from the National Body of JOHESU with IMMEDIATE EFFECT.
The Strike action took effect from 00.00Hrs Thursday 4th December 2014
Speaking in a telephone chat with a Nursing world Correspondent The NANNM Chairman Onkebody had this to say:
"The strike was undertaken and joined by the State and Local Government Healthcare Facilities due to the insensivity of the Government. We have given them enough time having waited this long and if the Government only understands this type of language (Strike Actions) why not speak it.
The Government always feels that they can play around and not accede to any demands, then we would have to be strong in our resolve and not give in till our demands are met.
Stay at home till further directives are sent. Be alert, Listen to the news and follow the trend. I implore all chairmen and Secretaries to monitor their units to ensure TOTAL compliance. The Time is now. Let their be unity, uniformity and sence of purpose. We shall get there.
On the "No work, No Pay" threat;
We are just starting, dont let anyone threaten you with the "No Work, No Pay" Order, as this only applies to associations that are not registered bodies (trade unions) as could be seen during the NMA Strike. We are a registered body and the "No Work No Pay" does not apply to us in any way.
On the Level of Compliance in all Facilities In The State:
The NANNM Chairman also stated that the level of compliance with the strike action in Lagos State has been seen to be very high but it was also noted that a few units were reported to not be in compliance with the strike action as Nurses were being forced to come to work.
