WORKERS under Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) comprising five unions at the Anambra State chapter of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, at the weekend, embarked on industrial action, insisting that they would not go back to work until their demands are met.
Patients at the emergency unit and other depart ments, when Dally Sun visited, were seen being evacuated to, possibly, private hospitals while other patients were loitering around as the resident doctors were also said to be on strike.
Some of the issues, according to them, were non payment of promotion arrears, skipping of CONHESS arrears over several years, non-sponsorship to training, workshops, seminars and in-service training, arrears of monetization, among others.
The workers were hell-bent to stay away from their duty posts until their demands were met, saying they had made series of complaints to the hospital management without any positive step to address the issues.
