#JOHESUStrike2018: FMC Abeokuta Opens Attendance Register For Striking Health Workers

Posted on: Wed 25-04-2018

An attendance register has been opened by the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, to monitor health workers who are on strike. The opening of the register was directed by the Federal Ministry of Health.

The ministry in a circular dated April 20, 2018, directed the medical directors of the federal hospitals to open the register, to enable them to invoke the “no work, no pay” policy against striking health workers.
The hospitals management were also directed to engage contract staff to replace the striking health workers.

Addressing newsmen on the sideline of the event marking the hospital’s founder’s day, the Medical Director, Professor Adewale Musa-Olomu, confirms that none of the striking health workers has so far signed the attendance register, since it was opened.

The medical director also said the hospital is not willing to employ contract staff, while appealing to both the federal government and health workers to urgently end the strike.

A top member of the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) in the hospital, who spoke with Rockcity FM, said none of the health workers will sign the register.
