Press Release By JOHESU on The On-Going Nation Wide Strike By The Health Workers

It would be recalled that Government met with JOHESU leaders on 22nd December 2014 to discuss matters that led to the strike by JOHESU.

Among the issues that day was the financial implications of the adjusted salary for JOHESU members which was confirmed to have been calculated for presentation to Mr. President for approval within a period of two weeks and that the relevant circulars on the matter and others woukd be released.

Regrettably, it is 5 weeks today at the time of this press release and the unions are still looking up to the Government to reconvene the meeting.

Activities slated by JOHESU to further remind the Government to reconvene this important meeting include:
- Reminder letters dated 23rd January 2015 were dispatched to the Honourable Ministers of Labour and Health
- The Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Othersnursingworldnigeria
- Prayers and Fasting were observed by all JOHESU members nationwide on Tuesday 21st January 2015
- Sensitization rallies and press conferences were also held across the nation between 21st to 28th January 2015

However the National rally in Abuja on the 28th of January 2015 had been put on hold to give room and respect for Mr President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan who has expressed his willingness to hold a meeting with the leadership of JOHESU to the strike soonest.

If Mr President fulfils his promise, the strike might soon come to an end.

Once again we implore Mr President to accelerate action on the resolution of this crisis which should be wholly blamed on the insensitivity of the Federal Government that has refused to implement the mutually signed agreements on diverse issues dating back to 2009 till date as well as four different court rulings and judgements in favour of JOHESU.

It must be noted that JOHESU Members have maintained absolute patience and restraint over the past 6 yrs while government has reneged on various agreements. While a section of the health sector is continuosly being given preferential treatment to the detriment of JOHESU members who are being discriminated against in all facets of establishment matters.

What we demand is Justice and Non-discrimination

Signed:
Com. (Dr) Ayuba P. Wabba, MNI
Chairperson, JOHESU

Com. Yusuf-Badmus W.G
Secretary, JOHESU
