The Association of Resident Doctors Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex Ile-Ife Chapter has reacted to the case of Assault on Dr Theresa Ugalahi

 

The association noted with dismay the unfortunate incident that occured on thursday 25th of february 2016 in which a female member of their association and senior registrar 1 in the department of psychiatry was beaten and severely battered by a supernumerary medical doctor from the Nigerian Military, wing commander Chukwuemeka Okpara

 

The memo as obtained by Medicalworld Nigeria was jointly signed by the association president Dr Wole Ayegbusi and General secretary Dr Akinniyi Taofeek. 

 

Part of the memo reads: They both live in the same compound which has a small parking space. Dr Ugalahi's alleged offence that fateful morning was that she did not come down early enough to move her car which was parked behind his own because she was dressing up when he was ready to go out.

 

This incident has been reported to the law enforcement agencies and the hospital managmenet. We strongly condemn any form of violence against anybody irrespective of gender or status. It is however more appalling when its gendr based violence. This is one too many of the recurring acts of military brutality against civilians in our society.

 

WE EXPECT NOTHING SHORT OF JUSTICE FROM ALL AGENCIES INVOLVED IN THIS MATTER.
