A medical doctor, Samuel Okpara, who was kidnapped last week in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, has died.
Shortly after his abduction, medical doctors in the state, under the auspices of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) threatened to embark on an indefinite strike following frequent abduction of their colleagues in the state. Okpara was kidnapped from his private hospital in Abuloma area of Port Harcourt.
Chairman of the NMA in the state, Dr. Furo Green, who confirmed the death of the medical doctor yesterday said his corpse was found behind the Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Borokiri, Port Harcourt, where it was dumped by his kidnappers.
The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Mohammad, said the remains of Okpara was discovered by men of the command.

Mohammad also confirmed the rescue of two other medical doctors, who were kidnapped in Port Harcourt within the same time Okpara was kidnapped.
Meanwhile, kidnappers of Mr. Freddy Ndigbara, an aide to Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, have demanded a ransom of N100 million.
Ndigbara, a staff of the Rivers State Council of Arts and Culture, but on secondment to the Press Unit of Government House, Port Harcourt, was kidnapped last
Saturday from his home-town, Kaani 1 community in Khana Local Government Area of the state, while setting up a public address system in preparation for a campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
But the state police spokesman has denied knowledge of any contact between the kidnappers of Ndigbara and his family. He however said men of the command are on the trail of the kidnappers.
