The Emir of Lafia, Alh Isa Mustapha Agwai I, has given his support to advocacy to promote child and family health care delivery in Nasarawa State.
The royal father made this known yesterday through one, Alh. Isiaka Dauda, Madakin Lafia, shortly after a media dialogue between traditional/community, religious leaders and faith- based organisations, on the one hand and the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN) and Partnership for Advocacy in Child and Family Health (PACFaH), on the other.
The emir explained that lack of adequate enlightenment on some of the pillars of family health like routine immunisation and family planning, has hindered considerable progress in the past.
He assured that the traditional institution would be in the vanguard of sensitizing the populace on the misguided insinuations that had generated controversies and ill-will towards some policies and programmes that promote family health in its entirety. The FOMWAN/ PACFaH project director, Farida Sada Yusuf, said they were in the state to improve government’s understanding of the challenges that confront child and family health and to solicit its intervention to resolve them by fulfilling policy, budgetary and administrative commitments.
She explained that fulcrum of the advocacy centres on the key areas of childhood killer diseases, family planning, nutrition and routine immunisation.
The project director said: “These health challenges account for the death of our poor children and mothers and that is why we are soliciting for your support to help us advocate for positive change by influencing government decisions and administrative guidelines to commit and fulfil their existing commitments.
