In an effort to ensure that government owned hospitals in Lagos State offer 24 hours service, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, said he has given approval for the recruitment of more paramedic staff and special medical coordinators.
The governor, who said this yesterday during the handover of Mobile Care Unit and ambulances, restated his commitment to upgrade general hospitals within the state and embark on construction of a medical park.
Speaking at the event, Ambode said the state government created 14 new ambulance points, bringing existing ambulance points to 25, as part of efforts to increase access to the grassroots.
He called on residents of the state to make use of the ambulances, adding that they are available 24 hours a week. He said government has plans to provide x-ray machines in all primary healthcare centres (PHC) as part of efforts to upgrade them to international standard and that drugs will now be made readily available.
Earlier, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Mrs. Omodele Osunkiyesi, noted that the launch of the items took place just 41 days ago when the state government organised a stakeholders summit at the behest of the governor to address challenges facing healthcare delivery system in the state.

She said the prompt delivery of the items is a testimony of good leadership, adding that the governor has taken proactive steps to address issues affecting the sector to guarantee peace and industrial harmony. She called on health care professionals to reciprocate government gesture.
