... Matriculates 30 students
Lagos State School of Nursing, Igando, yesterday, renewed its pledge to produce best and modem medical practitioners, as it officially welcomed 30 students into its School of Midwifery.
At the induction ceremony, the school's Coordinator, Mrs. Oyefimso Orenuga, told Daily. Sun that the 30 students, one male, 29 females, were all successful in their six months evaluation programme, hence, qualified to continue the three years midwifery course.
She said Lagos was building a school of excellence that would train professionally sound nurses and midwives that could compete with their contemporaries anywhere in the world. She promised that the school would not relent in its effort to pursue excellence, learning and service. ".
She disclosed that the institution was currently three-year programme in both school of nursing and school of midwifery, adding that there were already plans to launch other programmes, such as public health nursing, as soon government was ready.
"The essence of this capping and strapping is like a matriculation ceremony as they have it in the university. That is, admitting them into the school officially. Fortunately, the 30 students passed the examination," Orenuga disclosed.
The Acting Head" of the School, Mrs Obe Cecilia, stated that the theme' of the programme: 'Improving Maternal and Child Health Care through Professionalism and Global Best Practices', was apt She stressed that maintaining professionalism among medical students was key to developing the health sector.
"May I assure the Lagos State Government that" by the end of three, years and these students’ would have become "skilled attendants with midwifery skills, and would have been trained to a level of proficiency the management of nominal deliveries.
They would be able to prevent, diagnose major obstetrics complications and manage or refer patients with complications to qualified practitioners," she said.
