Jigawa state commissioner of heath, Dr. Abba Zakari has confirmed the death of one person and 26 others quarantined as result of Lassa fever.
Dr. zakari made the disclosure on Wednesday while briefing newsmen in Dutse saying apart from one that died, another person was also diagnosed with the disease in the state. The first case of the disease was reported in December last year in Gujuba village of Dutse local government area of the state.
The commissioner said the victim; Safiyanu Shehu contracted the disease in Rivers State and took ill later. He was rushed back home in Jigawa state where he was admitted at General hospital, Dutse.
He further explained that the deceased was diagnosed with the disease after a sample of his blood was taken for test and confirmed to be positive from Lagos University Teaching Hospital.
