Ebonyi state government has declared that the increasing numbers of suspected cases of Lassa fever in the State was worrisome.
The government said the facilities at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki can no longer manage the weight of increased scores of suspected cases currently under investigation. The State Deputy governor Dr. Kelechi Igwe said the hospital was already overstretched and appealed to the federal government to come to it aid to avert the spread of the disease.
Dr. Igwe said the officials of the hospital had notified the government of the need to seek support as more suspected cases of Lassa fever had exceeded the space where they should be quarantine.
“So we are passing this appeal made by the FETHA CMD to the federal government to quickly come to our rescue so as to ensure that we arrest this Lassa fever on time,” the deputy governor said.
