Lassa Fever: FMC Bida Sets Up Rapid Response Team

The Federal Medical Centre,  (FMC) Bida  Niger State has set up a rapid response  team to handle any outbreak of lassa fever in the area.
 
The medical director of the centre , Dr Mohammed Aminu-Usman said  in his office  in Bida  yesterday that the members of the team  are doctors who specialize in various fields.
 
He said the team which is   headed by Dr Unice Nmadu  will be  charged with  the  responsibility of attending to any emergency case on the dreaded fever in  the area.
 
The MD explained that the team will be on 24 hours service and that their  phone numbers had been placed at strategic locations within and outside the  hospital for people to report suspected cases of lassa fever.
 
Usman  said  that a ward had been renovated and fully equipped and isolated for  treatment of any suspected lassa fever case.
 
He said  the  centre had  organized  workshops to sensitise all the staff on the causes, dangers and treatment modes of lassa fever.
 
He noted that the is would enable them to  reach out to the public through enlighment campaigns.  
 
He advised the people to keep their environment clean, emphasizing on the  importance of good sanitary habits.
