The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has advised the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency review downward, tariff on solar panel equipment as well as import duty on medical, surgical and dental equipment.
According to the chamber’s president, Mr Babatunde Ruwase, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) had recently re-classified HS code for solar panel equipment with a view to increase the tariff, in addition to the 20 per cent duty on the batteries, which make up solar home systems, adding that such reclassification will create affordability problems for many households and SMEs that wish to adopt renewable energy solution.
Speaking in Lagos on the state of the economy, Ruwase said it is necessary to reduce the cost of acquisition of the equipment to promote the policy of government on energy mix.
