Acting Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, MLSCN, Mrs Olufunke Omotuyi, has appealed to the Federal Government to lift the suspension on national laboratory inspection in the country.
Omotuyi made the call when she led officers of the council to visit Minister of State for Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire in Abuja, according to a release made available to National Mirror by Director of Media and Public Relations in Federal Ministry of Health, Mrs Boade Akinola.

She said in the release that national laboratory inspection was one of the core mandates of the MLSCN for the maintenance of good standards of medical laboratory practice and services, among other functions in the nation. The release informed that the inspection was suspended, following resistance from medical laboratory scientists. Omotuyi pledged to re-strategize for better ways of encouraging cooperation rather than resistance from medical laboratory professionals while the council go on inspection of laboratory facilities.
The statement quoted the minister as appealing to medical laboratory scientists in the country to cooperate with officers from their regulatory body while on inspection to their facilities.
He said in the release that his call was necessitated by the “unwholesome behaviour and resistance” that characterized medical laboratory inspections which he said led to the suspension of national laboratory inspections by the Federal Government.
The Minister was quoted as urging health practitioners in the country to eschew suspicion, acrimony and aggression from their dealings with their professional colleagues. “Disharmony is inimical to the progress of medical practice and the health sector as a whole. So, I solicit for an end to acrimony in all regulatory bodies in the health sector,” he furthered.
