The National Chairman of the Association of Community Pharmacist of Nigeria, Pharm. Samuel Adekola, has advocated the use of technology to improve patients’ care. Adekola at an event organised by the association to mark the ACPN Day described digital technology as a necessity for documentation on patients. He stated that leveraging on technology was the best way to document the histories of patients and will also go a long way to help the pharmacists to deliver services to the patients.

“Leveraging technology to improve patients’ health is in line with international best practices.  Technology will not only help in documentation, but it will also help the doctors to know the patients’ medical history. “When a doctor is aware of a patient’s history, he will be able to determine the next line of treatment,” Adekola said.

The Chairman ACPN, Lagos State, Pharm. Olabanji Obideyi, said that the use of technology to improve patients’ care will not replace human resources. He said, “In developed countries, they are already using robots to dispense drugs. However, it is still humans that direct whatever technology needed for the improvement of our duties.”
