Hospital officials say the center will offer services such as complimentary therapies, including cognitive behavioral therapy and physical therapy, and nutrition guidance to those afflicted by the disease.
The center's medical director, Dr. Timothy Flanigan, says reported cases of Lyme disease in Rhode Island increased fourfold over the past six years. He says the rise in other tick-borne illnesses is almost as high.
Flanigan says the center's staff members are particularly experienced in treating people suffering from chronic Lyme disease.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say approximately 10 to 20 percent of patients treated for Lyme disease will have lingering symptoms.
