The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State, Mr Seyi Makinde, on Sunday asked Governor Abiola Ajimobi to confirm or deny alleged plan to transfer the ownership of Ring Road Hospital, Adeoyo, to certain individuals.
In a statement issued by his campaign organisation and signed by Prince Dotun Oyelade, the PDP candidate said he did not care “whether the buyers are the governor’s friends or business partners; what is uppermost is that any property of the state must be held in trust for the greater good of the masses.”
Makinde said he’s worried that it appeared that the same consortium which offered to buy Ladoka Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, but was stopped by uproar from people of goodwill was on the verge of possessing, through their patriarch in Lagos, the largest state hospital in the old western region and charge exhorbitant fees which the common man could not afford.
But responding, Oyo State Government spokesman, Mr Toye Arulogun, described the allegation as unfounded and mere opportunism.
“The Oyo State Government has a methodical and holistic approach to health care and medical services delivery managed by a board of the Oyo State Health Endowment Fund chaired by the very reputable Prof. Olu Akinkugbe. Privatising Adeoyo or any other hospital is not a part of the plans of the Abiola Ajimobi administration,” Arulogun said.
