The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria has issued a public notice on the publication of a fake master register purprted to have emanated from the MDCN and attempting to inform the public of the list of licensed and registered doctors in Nigeria.
You would recall that #SaharaHealth, the health arm of saharareporters had teamed up with codefornigeria to help expose quacks in the medical profession and urged the public to visit its website http://health.saharareporters.com/ to check if a doctor is registered.
Licensed medical professionals were also advised to send an email to the website administrator if they couldnt find thier names on the list.
The MDCN public notice obtained by a medicalworld Nigeria correspondent jude chiedu reads :
"The attention of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has been drawn to the publication of a fake Master Register purported to have emanated from the MDCN and attempting to inform the public of the list of licensed and registered doctors in Nigeria.
MDCN wishes to categorically disown such publication and hereby states that:
It has at no time released the Master Register to anyone, group or agency/agencies.
The only authentic Master Register resides with MDCN, as prescribed by law.
MDCN will soon create a link on its webportal that will assist the public determine whether a practitioner is genuine or not. This will consist of the practitioner’s folio number, names, passport photograph and other security variables"
