MDCN Certifies MedEnhanz as Online CPD provider

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria has licensed MedEnhanz Resources Limited as an online Continuing Professional Development provider in the country.

MedEnhanz is an online medical information company that provides a web-based medical information and clinical reference tool for Nigerian medical professionals.

The Chief Medical Officer at MedEnhanz, Dr. Dokun Dairo, noted that over the years, “efficiency, effectiveness, sustainability and profitability witnessed by the financial and telecommunication sectors in Nigeria have eluded education and health sectors, particularly medical care delivery.

“This is attributable to the health sector’s inability to embrace digital revolution that has become the cornerstone of every human endeavor.”

Since the MDCN mandated participation in CPD activities in 2011, many physicians have had challenges acquiring up to 20 CPD units required for renewal of their practising licence.

MDCN Registrar, Dr. Abdulmimni Ibrahim, said the efforts to bridge this gap motivated the council to accredit MedEnhanz as an online CPD provider.

Dairo said the purpose of the CPD programmme “is to ensure that doctors regularly upgrade their skills in the constantly changing field of medicine.

MDCN had mandated MedEnhanz to conduct a pilot study on delivering online CPD for medical practitioners in Nigeria, with the aim of providing insights into the technical feasibility and effectiveness, while also serving as a reference point for MDCN to develop guidelines specific to the deployment of online CPD in Nigeria.

Dairo said the pilot study confirmed that online delivery of CPD activities for medical practitioners in Nigeria was technically feasible, “as it has also demonstrated that web-based CPD is effective in knowledge gain and performance of practising physicians in our setting.”
