Medical and Dental Consultant Association of Nigeria, MDCAN, yesterday criticised President Goodluck Jonathan-led Federal Government over shifting of the general elections scheduled to hold this month.

In a statement made available to National Mirror by its President, Steven Oluwole, MDCAN, doubted the capacity of the Federal Government to contain the terrorists in six weeks as demanded by the military; which INEC said necessitated the shift in elections dates from February 14 and 28 to March and April.

 

MDCAN said, “Any security chiefs that failed to prepare for the elections should be relieved of its duties immediately, while the elections should be rescheduled for a fortnight.

 

“Failure or reluctance of Mr President to act speedily and decisively may put democratic governance in jeopardy and plunge this country into chaos that will fulfill the forecast of foreign powers.

Mr President will lose the legitimacy to rule if he allows the fundamental principles of democracy to be violated and the will of the people that elected him derailed,” the medical practitioners warned.’’ MDCAN said in spite of strength of the nation’s military, the insurgents had proven to have upper hands in the terror war, and that citizens of the country suffer needlessly in the troubled North East.

 

 

The doctors frowned at inability of government to protect the territorial integrity of Nigeria and increasing boldness of insurgents to take the battle to military bases.
