In a strategic move to scale down medical tourism outside Nigeria, an indigenous company, Universal Medical Innovation (UMI) and the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) are to build a $400 million hospital in Abuja.
According to NIPC and UMI officials, the objective is to drastically curtail medical tourism usually undertaken by Nigerians outside the country to seek for medical attention.
NIPC Executive Secretary, Mrs Uju Hassan Baba said the commission is working closely in collaboration with Universal Medical Innovation to build a 300-bed hospital in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory. Hassan Baba stated this when she received the Board of Directors of the hospital led by Air Vice Marshal Salifu Atawodi (rtd.)
She expressed the determination of the commission to encourage indigenous investors to invest in the economy, stressing that “local investors are supposed to be the leading light to the Foreign investors through Joint Venture Partnership (JVP)”.
