The Minister of State, Health, Dr. E. Osagie Ehanire, has called on Health professionals to focus on patients’ care, safety and efficiency as a way of enhancing health service delivery in the country.  The Minister stated this recently, in Edo state, while on official visit to the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH).

In his speech, at the Annual General Meeting of the Nigeria Medical Association, Edo Central Zone, held at the Hospital, Dr. Enahire emphasized the need for health officers to key seriously into the change policy of the present administration in the country. He maintained that the ‘change is a change of direction, a change for transformation and a change for the better’.

Dr. Enahire noted that due to the dwindling price of oil in the international market, government resources are limited. In view of this, new initiatives must be brought to bear to complement government’s effort, the Minister added.

On strike actions, the Minister said that the Federal Government would engage the ‘NMA’ and other Unions in the sector in order to avert crises. This strategy, he opined, will ensure industrial harmony in the health sector.

He nonetheless, commended the management, staff and various Unions in the Hospital for their co-operation with the management of Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital led by Dr. S. A. Okogbenin.
