The Founder of Orbus Global Solutions, a non-governmental organisation, Mrs Aisha Bello-Tukur, has called on Nigerians to join hands together in the fight against malaria.
Speaking during a World Malaria Day event held in Lagos on Thursday, Bello-Tukur stressed the need to repeat the event as the rate of deaths caused by the disease should motivate all stakeholders to strengthen their commitment and capacity to end this disease.
“Nigeria carries a larger percentage of the malaria burden all over the world. There is, therefore, a need for individual and global efforts to control this killer disease,” Bello-Tukur said.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris, urged Nigerians to go for regular malaria tests and stop depending on self-medication.
Idris, who was represented by Mrs Ibronke Akintunde, said the provision of treated mosquito nets, anti-malaria drugs and insecticides, among others, would be very useful in the fight against malaria.
Over 300 people benefitted from a free malaria test conducted during the event, which was organised by the NGO in partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the Primary Health Management Board.
