About 50 internally displaced persons (IDPs) have benefited from the free eye surgery carried out by military specialists from the 79 Composite Group of the Nigeria Air Force, 
Maiduguri, Borno State. Commanding officer of the centre, Wing Commander S. N. Irmiya said the Chief of Air Staff has taken care of the total cost of the operation which includes feeding, admissions and drugs for the patients and will soon extend it to others surgeries.

Irmiya said his team has undertaken medical outreach in 14 out of more 20 IDP camps within Borno State and has established a hospital at Dalori camp where they are collaborating with other agencies like UNICEF, International Committee for the Red Cross (ICRC), NEMA and SEMA to provide quality healthcare services for the IDPs.
The Chief Consultant, Dr. Olufemi Adewale said that out over 1.2 millions Nigeria are blind mostly in the northern part of the country, adding that a lot of the IDPs have trachoma which is usually found in dry areas with dusty wind.
