NANNM Creates Awareness On Lassa Fever In FCT

In its efforts to prevent the spread of Lassa fever disease in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), National Association of Nigeria Nurse and Midwives (NANNM) staged an advocacy campaign against the dreaded disease.
 
The chairperson of NANNM in the FCT chapter, Comrade Deborah Yusuf told journalists that her leadership embarked on the awareness campaign to educate members of the public about the precautionary measures needed against the dreaded disease.
 
Yusuf tasked nurses to work towards tackling the disease through educating patients to imbibe the spirit of living in hygienic environment, free from rodents that could cause food contamination.
 
She also informed the nurses to promote the practice of barrier nursing and isolation, noting that they should identify patients with severe cases such as fever, headache, hypertension and vomiting with blood for referral.
 
The chairperson further called on government to engage all stakeholders whenever there is outbreak of diseases, adding that every association has a role to play in contributing its quota in the health care delivery, disease prevention and control.
 
She tasked government to promote the welfare of nurses to enable them perform optimally, in accordance with the international best practices, that nurses need motivation, since most of them are exposed to various diseases.
