The leadership of the Nigerian Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has joined other world leaders to congratulate the president elect, General Muhammadu Buhari (Retd) on his victory at the 2015 Presidential elections. 

The president of the association Abdulrafiu Adeniji (3A) in an exclusive phone interview with Jude chiedu of Nursingworld Nigeria welcomed General Buhari into office and congratulated every Nigerian and the political parties for midwiving a peaceful election.

 

President Abdulrafui also lauded the incumbent Nigerian president for his outstanding show of statesmanship and also for setting the pace for peaceful and credible election were votes count. According to him in the past votes didn’t count, but today, votes have counted and this is a very good achievement by the incumbent president Goodluck Jonathan. 

 

To General Muhammadu Buhari (Retd) he had this to say: out of every circumstances, there would always be challenges, Nigerian nurses congratulate and welcome you into office. Leadership position is one of trust and anyone coming into position must rely on the electorate. Everyone has his strength and weakness, and must be able to use it to engender peace, unity and security in the country. We congratulate him because it was a very tough duel

 

We hope and believe that the health sector and the needs of Nigerian Nurses would not be neglected; we promise that the entire Nigerian nurses would do everything possible to ensure that the health sector does not suffer. We also sound a note of warning that any government that plays with the interest and welfare of health workers would not be able to succeed in its entirety. 

 

 

 

 

When jude of Nursingworld enquired what the fate of previous NANNM/ JOHESU agreements that are pending with the outgoing Jonathan administration was, he replied " we know Jonathan to be someone who would keep to his word, he had earlier promised that immediately after the elections something would be done, and the leadership of NANNM had already written to remind him of his promises and we hope he lives up to expectation before he leaves office. 

 

But in the event that nothing happens, Government is a continuum, As the saying goes: Government Go, Government Come. It is only the elected positions that would be vacant; all the major stakeholders needed for agreement implementations like the permanent secretaries, directors are still in office. We believe our agreements would not suffer. That’s our belief.

 

On the activities of the association, He added that the International Nurses week celebration/ National convention would be holding in May in Abuja and also the quadrennial delegate’s conference is scheduled for 2016. NANNM would also be in korea for the ICN Korea event and at the ILO event too.
