The Acting Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Mr Femi Akingbade has reiterated the significant role the National Orientation Agency (NOA) can play in the Scheme’s crucial effort to mobilise Nigerians to enrol for health insurance.

He stated this while he was on a courtesy call on the new Director General of the Agency, Dr, Garba Abari, at the Garki-Abuja Head Office of NOA.

According to the NHIS boss, the visit was to congratulate Dr Garba Abari on his new appointment which his track record justifies eminently, as he is noted in the academic community to stand tall in issues of character and duty.

Akingbade however seized the occasion to request the cooperation of the DG for the renewal of an existing relationship between the two agencies of government, towards building a joint platform for the effective delivery of their respective institutional public duties.

He acknowledged that the nation continues to look up to NHIS to make access to effective healthcare easy for the people, through the provision of various platforms of entry into health insurance for the different classes of people, taking into account the diverse challenges faced by different people, with reference to social and economic circumstances.  

He noted particularly the persistent need to keep providing information and education for potential enrolees, thereby assisting them to recognise the benefits of health insurance, so that they can make informed decisions in favour of enrolment.

The NHIS helmsman therefore solicited the cooperation of NOA through putting at the disposal of the Scheme, the well-known vast structure and national spread of the instruments of mass mobilisation of the Agency.

"This will enable us succeed together as true agents of change in the spirit of the Buhari administration, especially in its commitment to ensure that all Nigerians enjoy easy access to effective, affordable, quality, available and sustainable healthcare, leading ultimately to economic prosperity and social well-being”.

Dr. Abari expressed the pleasure of NOA under his leadership to collaborate with NHIS to advance the cause of health care in the country, promising full deployment of the structure and resources of the Agency in the process.

He assured the NHIS Chief Executive of the strong presence of NOA even at the ward level across the country, as well as its corps of well trained staff on the field for the task of public sensitisation and advocacies.

Both leaders rose from the meeting expressing commitment to closely examining the MoU already jointly developed by both organisations, for the purpose of speedy implementation
