A non-governmental organisation (NGO), Beyond Usual Care Foundation, has partnered Heritage Assembly to improve the health and mental well being of children in Addo Community, Ajah Local Government Area of Lagos State.

 

The organisation declared that such effort would help the children actualise their full potentials in life.

 

Speaking during the free de-worming exercise for children which took place on Thursday in Addo Primary School compound, Lagos, the Founder of the NGO, Oniko Majiri, said the exercise was a fallout of one of the outreach which was done in 2013, by one of their colleagues, “so we felt that there was need to do a follow up in the community.”

 

Majiri lamented that many children in the community were not de-wormed, “therefore, today’s exercise was aimed at helping to correct the situation and improve on their health and mental wellbeing.

 

“What happened here today was part of our services to the community. The organisation was setup to cater for the less privileged children, and the whole focus is to transform the society. Also, the NGO has a particular interest in children especially under-privileged ones in the society.

 

“The future of this country lies  with  the children, therefore total attention should be given to helping them develop and become better citizens. We believe that when this is done, they will be great leaders of the country.”

 

 

In his response, the Ajah Resident Pastor of Heritage Assembly, Felix Odogbo, said the exercise was the medical outreach of the church through which they reach out to those around them and improve the health of members of the community.

 

He stated that through the initiative, souls are won to Christ, thereby benefiting the community physically and spiritually. “This medical outreach is one major tool the church anchors to impact the community in Ajah. We also give them free drugs, treatments and pay medical bills for less privileged persons.”

 

The clergyman also noted that the church was collaborating with the the Foundation because of its commitment to help the community through several free services and its stance in sharing the vision of the church.

 

“We believe that with what we have done today, these children will grow and not forget the benefits of this initiative. They would also make themselves relevant for the work of God and the society. This initiative is not a one-off thing rather, it is something that we will continue to do.

 

“This exercise is funded by the church. Presently, the church has a functional clinic, where we render free healthcare services to members of the community, as we are committed to developing them physically, mentally and spiritually. But our paramount concern is the educational development of these children.”
