Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Kola Oluwawole, has lamented the poor information available to Nigerians about the concept of National Health Insurance Scheme , saying this has hindered people’s participation in the scheme.
He contended that the people, particularly those in the grassroots, misconstrued it to be an avenue to further tax them by the various governments. Oluwawole spoke while receiving a delegation of officials of the scheme, led by its Regional Coordinator (South-West), Mrs Olajoke Balogun, in his office Wednesday.
The Speaker noted that whenever the NHIS brought its bill aimed at creating the agency for the state, it would receive speedy attention, as “the current government in the state is not taking the issue of health with levity.”
