As part of its determination to make health insurance accessible to the common people, the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), at the weekend, offered free malaria test to traders at the Olajumoke Akinjide Modern market in Dutse Alhaji, a suburb at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The scheme also extended the free malaria test to motorists, passers-by and other residents of the densely populated area.
Speaking to journalists on the exercise, the FCT coordinator of the scheme, Obaro Ologbo, said the exercise was to enlighten ordinary Nigerians on the need to key into health insurance programme in order to access quality and affordable healthcare services in the country.
According to him, under the scheme’s programme, Community Based Health Insurance (CBHI), the scheme has reached out to many communities in FCT and embarked on different healthcare projects for the benefit of the people.
While informing that the scheme has begun enlightenment programme at the rural areas on the benefit of CBHI to the people, the FCT coordinator called on other relevant stakeholders to joins hands with the scheme in improving the health services to the common people.
