Nigeria has enough vaccines that would last her till the first quarter of 2017 and has recorded no case of vaccine stock out for all its immunization programmes in the last two years, the Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA, Dr Ado Mohammad has said.
Mohammed stated this when he received the Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole who paid an official visit to the agency recently, according to a release made available to National Mirror by Head, Media and Public Relations Unit of the NPHCDA, Mr Saadu Salahu.
Besides, the agency’s boss said the country had not recorded any polio case for the past 20 months, raising the nation’s hope of being certified free of the disease by World Health Organization next year. He announced in the release that the agency would soon strengthen each state of the federation on primary health care with “impending” deployment of management staff to head the NPHCDA offices at state level.

Mohammad lauded the Minister and the entire leadership of the nation’s health sector on their commitment to the revitalization of primary health care in the country. In his address, the minister said Federal Government’s current priority on health is to provide universal health coverage for Nigerians. “In practical demonstration of this commitment, the Minister disclosed that the federal Government is mobilizing required resources to make 10,000 primary health care centers functional in all the political wards in the country in the next two years.“
According to the Minister, each of the 10,000 centers, which would be one per political ward, would be designed to operate 24 hours each day with a view to providing comprehensive PHC services, including maternal and child health services.
“The PHC agenda of the administration, the Minister emphasized, was geared towards providing universal care to about 100 million vulnerable Nigerians, while also addressing the huge financial burden of out of pocket expenditure which has over the years hindered access to health care,” the release stated.
It stressed that the minister commended the leadership of the NPHCDA for a job well done especially on the polio eradication achievement by the country. He also assured the agency’s leadership of his total support on primary health care revitalization and primary health care under one roof in the country.
