The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the Medical Directors of Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba, and the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, Prof. Chris Bode, and Dr. Raheem Lawal resectively over alleged gross violation of civil service rules.
Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of NMA, Dr. Tope Ojo, made the call on Sunday at a press conference to mark end of its 2015 annual general meeting in lagos. The chairman said most Nigerians do not have access to decent and affordable healthcare.
He also charged the Federal Government to formulate policies that would prevent political office holders from seeking medical care overseas to give a lifeline to the comatose status quo of the Nigerian health sector.
Ojo said: "The participants at the NMA Lagos State AGM appeal to President Buhari to holistically look at issues of trade dispute and settlements in the health sector to ensure a lasting solution to incessant strikes precipitated by failure of government to implement agreements reached with worker in the sector.
"While Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) has been bedeviled by recurrent strike action and various disputes between its management and workers, Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Yaba has been in crisis over succession for the office of its medical director."
