As part of its Corporate Social Responsibly Commodity Consumers Distributors (CCD) Superstores, a subsidiary of the Nosak Group has commenced its annual free health care system known as Health Fair 2015 where free medical checkup, treatment and advice were offered to Lagosians.
The maiden edition of the Health Fair which took place last weekend at CCD corporate office at Ogudu, Lagos, the management of the company noted that the activities were its humble way it could give back to the society having been in operation since 1993, adding that that company believes in the ethical values of honesty, openness, social responsibility and care for others.
The Managing Director of CCD Superstores, Mrs. Risi Ogunbor, told journalists that the Health Fair was aimed at offering free medical health care to their numerous customers, and gives members of the public the opportunity to get free advisory health services from all the participating partners at the event.
She stated that: “As you can see, customers were tested for free on some health issues like Blood Sugar Level, Blood Pressure, Body Mass Index (BMI), Hepatitis B, Eye test, among others.
“Customers who passed through these tests procedures were offered food supplements for curative or preventive purposes and other health enhancing drugs. The customers were also encouraged to always check their health status because ‘health is wealth’. “Today event is a way of saying thank you to the community. The community has been my benefactor, their loyalty and support has helped to take this business to the level. Therefore, it is my way of appreciating them and sowing into their lives so that they would be in good form and shop in CCD.
“The health sector in Nigeria has left too much to be desired, therefore, our organisation is providing free healthcare to Nigerian in order to know what exactly their health problems are and how to take the proper medication. I guess the government is doing its best though, individual and corporate bodies have to do their part. Beside, the essence of today’s is a way of urging them to continue shopping with CCD.”
Ogunbor added that those tested were also encouraged to regularly consult qualified health practitioners to ascertain the level of their health in order to guide against sudden death or life threatening ailments.
She added that profit making was not paramount in their agenda when she conceived and nurtured the idea of setting up a reputable store like CCD Superstores.
According to her, “In the early 90s’, I noticed that there wasn’t any one-stop supermarket in Ogudu area, where shoppers can come in and buy all the items they want. I noticed that the residents usually go farther places like Ketu/Mile12 to buy beverages, vegetables and other groceries. I decided to set up the store as a way of alleviating the problem of long distance shopping for mainly Ogudu residents.”
In his remark, Group Executive Director, Corporate Services, Nosak Group, Osagie Ogunbor told THISDAY that CCD has hosted health fare event as a way to appreciate the community and give back to them, adding that “this is an effort to let the customers know we care about them by inviting some partners, such as pharmacists, doctors, nurses, eye specialists to provide this free medical care courtesy of CCD. They are all here to give the customers free health checkups. Nosak group is partnering with one of our subsidiary to promote this fair.”
While conducting journalists round each unit, Mrs. Ogunbor, stated that the company intends to make the fair an annual event as well as expand to other parts of the state and the country at large.
As part of its CSR activities, CCD also donated some units of waste baskets to support Lagos State Government’s drive for a clean environment. Some organisations that benefited from this donation are Ogudu Area H Police station, Ogudu Primary Health Center and Kosofe Local Government Council, Ogudu. Donations were also made to widows and orphanage homes.
The Health Fair 2015 was done in partnership with renowned companies in Nigeria like Procter and Gamble (Oral care), Re-care Cosmetics (Hair Care/Management), Haven Pharmacy and Health Shop (Blood Pressure/Sugar Test), Siden Eye Clinic, Virtual Human Health (Cellular/Whole body screening) and Nosak Healthcare
