THE number of veterinary doctors in Abuja has swollen with an induction of new members into the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN), FCT chapter. 

 

The new doctors were charged to see their induction as a call to greater service, professionalism and unalloyed commitment to the practice of veterinary medicine. 

 

Vice President of Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN), Dr Allswell Emejuru, who gave the charge at the induction ceremony, advised the doctors to always offer quality services in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Council. 

 

Emejuru urged them to constantly up-date their knowledge and assured that the Council would continue to regulate their activities even after the graduation as part of efforts to eradicate quacks and instil discipline in the profession. 

 

He said, "It is also expected of you to re- spect your professional colleagues, practise diligently and abide by your oath of office." 

 

In his remarks, Registrar of the Council, Dr Markus Avong, charged the inductees to abide by the rules and regulations guiding the veterinary profession in order not to be sanctioned by the Council, Avong enjoined them to be good ambassadors of the Council, warning that only those who improved on the knowledge and skill acquired while in the university, and exhibited exemplary character would be given permanent certificate. 

 

In an interview, one of the new doctors, Idris Yusuf, described veterinary medicine as one of the best courses in the world.
