Dr Stephanie Ferguson, Ph.D., RN, FAAN,Director of ICN’s Leadership for Change Programme and the ICN-Burdett Global Nursing Leadership Institute, and Dr Sheila Tlou, Ph.D., RN,Faculty member of the ICN-Burdett Global Nursing Leadership Institute and regional director for Eastern and Southern Africa, UNAIDS, have been elected as members of the Institute of Medicine (IOM).  

Election to the IOM is considered one of the highest honours in the fields of health and medicine and recognises individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service. 

Other nurses who were elected include: Margaret Heitkemper, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, professor and chair of biobehavioral nursing, biobehavioral nursing and health systems, School of Nursing, University of Washington, Seattle; and Kathleen Marie Potempa, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, dean and professor, University of Michigan School of Nursing, Ann Arbor.
