The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNW) met in Calabar, Cross River State over the weekend and ordered its members to suspend all forms of skeletal and concessional services in hospitals across the country.
The association accused the federal government of treating their grievances and demands with levity, even as they constitute 95 per cent of entire workforce in the health industry.
The national president of the association, Comrade Abdulrafiu Alani Adeniji said members of NANNM and Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) should prepare for a long-drawn battle.
He said members of the association were being attacked, intimidated and brutalised for demanding for their legitimate rights, adding that there has been obvious exhibition of bias against them, including the refusal of the Federal Ministry of Health to look into pertinent administrative matters affecting them.
