Optometrists and Dispensing Optician Registration Board of Nigeria Grants FUTO Interim Accreditation

In pursuance to its mandate, the Optometrists and Dispensing Optician Registration Board of Nigeria (ODORBN), visited the University to conduct accreditation exercise in the Department of Optometry. ODORBN by law is the regulatory body for Optometry and Dispensing Opticianary study in Nigeria and has the duty to ensure the quality of the educational programmes it accredits.
 
Consequently, a four-man Accreditation team from ODORBN visited the University on Friday, October 24, 2014 to assess facilities at the Department of Optometry. The members of the Team included:

i.  Prof Uche Ikonne -                 Team Leader
ii. Prof Frank O. Iwuagwu -            Member
iii.Dr Okafor Igbo  -                  Member
iv. Dr Ikechukwu Nwakuche -            Member
 
The team assessed the facilities, staffing, curriculum content and physical infrastructure in the Department. It expressed satisfaction with the level of facilities in the Department but however pointed out some areas that needed remedial action.
 
In their final report, the Board granted an INTERIM accreditation status to the Department which is valid for two academic sessions only starting from the 2013/2014 session.
 
The Vice-Chancellor has equally noted the findings and recommendations of the Board.
