Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has approved a 5% pay rise for health workers in the state, including laboratory technicians, nurses and midwives.
The government had earlier this month also raised doctors’ pay by 5%. He announced the increase when he received members of the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) who visited him at Government House in Benin City yesterday. “We are burdened not only by the low price of crude oil, we are also saddled by massive looting and diversion from public treasury at the federal level.

Chairman the Joint Health Workers Union in the state, Comrade Osaretin Agbonlahor, thanked the governor, saying he had demonstrated consistent commitment to workers’ welfare despite the economic situation.
