The Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) is working towards sanitizing hospital pharmacy practice because of its poor state across the country.

 

Registrar of the Council, Pharmacist Elijah Mohammed, stated this yesterday at World Pharmacy Day organized by the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Abuja Branch.

 

Represented by a Deputy Director of the Council, Pharmacist Peter Illiya, he said investigations carried out by two teams showed it was nothing to cheer about and the government was about to overhaul the practice in all the hospitals.

 

 

He said the council was working to ensure everyone is carried along in the National Drug Distribution Guidelines (NDDGs) and also cracking down on illegal practitioners so that pharmacists in community practice can have a breathing space, among others.

 

Chairman, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Abuja branch, pharmacist Bridget Otote said the theme of this year’s World Pharmacy Day “Pharmacist: Your partner in health” is a continuation of the several years campaign by the international federations, national associations and pharmacy practitioners to move pharmacy practice away from focusing on medicine supply to a more inclusive focus on patient care.
