PCN Seals 98 Patent Medicine Shops in Bauchi

The Bauchi State office of Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) has locked up 98 patent medicine shops in Bauchi metropolis over various offences.

PCN State Officer, Pharmacist Bakwa Nenlep disclosed this while speaking to journalists after a two-day inspection of the patent medicine shops operating in the state capital by the Task Force Committee on Patent and Proprietors Vendors set up by the PCN, saying the 98 shops were locked as part of an effort to sanitise the system and sensitize the vendors on the need to obtain licence to operate legally.

According to him, the move is also to stop the sale of illicit drugs to youths and to check the proliferation of patent medicine vendors in communities and stop drug abuse.

Nenlep said that the exercise would be a continuous one so as to monitor the vendors’ activities.

“Very soon we are going to local government areas for inspection to make them understand the guidelines which provide that ownership of patent medicine shops should be open to all Nigerians who have met the requirements should be respected in order not to infringe on the rights of citizens,” he said.
