The Pharmacists Council of Nigeria [PCN] has sealed-up over 123 premises out of 142 visited in Osun State during the council’s yearly operations against indiscriminate sale of Drugs.

The Director in charge of Inspection and Monitoring Department of the Council, Mrs Anthonia .O. Aruya who disclosed this at a press Conference  in Osogbo also noted that the premises were closed down because they did not submit to the regulatory control that would guarantee sale and distribution of Medicines through approved channels by the council.

She noted that the premises sealed comprises of 14 Pharmacies and 109 patent medicine shops for offences ranging from unauthorised sale of medicines, operating without the supervision of the Pharmacist among others.

Also, 19 premises were given compliance directives for issues ranging from poor documentation, poor storage condition of medicines .

The Director who urged Nigerians to follow the laws that regulates the practice of the Pharmacy in the country contended that Federal government would not tolerate the indiscriminate sale of drugs without submission to the regulatory control that would guarantee the sales and distribution.

She also advised the public to always purchase their medicines from licensed Pharmacies and simple household remedies from licensed patent and propriety medicines vendor shops.

The Director however noted that the PCN would ensure rational distribution and dispensing of medicines that are safe, effective and of good quality.

She stressed that in carrying out the mandate, the PIC in all the states of the Federation and the Federal Capital territory had established structures such as Pharmaceutical Inspection Committee [PIC]
