The Association of Community Phannacists of Nigeria (ACPN), has attributed the proliferation of illegal pharmaceutical premises and fake and substandard pharmaceutical products in Nigeria to lack of political will by federal government regulatory agencies to implement the National Drug Distribution Guideline (NDoo) of2012.
The group insisted that its implementation would have solved the chaotic drug distribution system in the country. National Chairman of the group, Dr. Albert Alkali Kelong, in a press briefing recently in Lagos to announce ACPN forthcoming national conference, said although the government has twice shifted the implementation date, it is hoped that the regulatory agencies will muster the political will and subdue vested interest in implementing the NDoo in the new August 2017 date so that faking, counterfeiting, unregistered products and illegal phannaceutical premises would be a thing of the past. The group also used same medium to remind the government of the need to appoint a Pharmacist as the Director General of the National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). You must have full grasp so that nobody comes and tells you the wrong thing and when inspecting a place, nobody can cover up anything because you have the manufacturing, extraction, pharmacological, chemistry and clinical knowledge of the drug.
