The Plateau State acting Executive Director of Plateau AIDS Control Agency (PLACA), Sunday Markus Koka, has urged both private and public owned hospitals in the state to always carry out free HIV test for the people of the state, saying that it will help in check-mating the spread of the virus.
Koka stated this with our correspondent at the flag-off of the World AIDS Day on Tuesday.
According to him, “most carriers are discourage in going to have themselves checked because of the money involved and thereby would not know what their status are. Early detection will held the carrier to go for counselling and prevent further spread of the virus”, he said. Mr. Sunday Koka said it is no doubt necessary to stamp out the virus as the effects of HIV and Aids remain great as it continues to devastate individuals, families and households affecting their health and economic well-being.
In stamping out the scourge, PLACA said the global theme for this year’s celebration which is “Getting to Zero-Zero New Infections, Discrimination and Zero AIDS Related Deaths”, coincides with the determination of the state in ensuring that the spread of the deadly virus is brought to zero percent.
